Voter List Revision 2026:
Draft Rolls &
Deletion Wave
The 9th update is a major nationwide event. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released the Draft Electoral Rolls for several states under the "Special Intensive Revision" (SIR) 2.0. This is the final chance to ensure you are eligible for the 2026 Assembly elections.
Unprecedented Scale
As of December 2025, the ECI has published integrated draft rolls aiming to "purify" the lists. This has led to the removal of millions of "ghost" entries and duplicates via AI and field verification.
1 Massive Deletions: Is Your Name Missing?
If you cannot find your name, it might be part of the massive cleaning drive. The ECI reported staggering numbers of deletions due to death, migration, or duplication:
*If you didn't submit your "Enumeration Form" to the BLO in November, your name may have been moved to the ASD (Absentee, Shifted, Dead) list.
2 Revised State-wise Schedule & Deadlines
The ECI has adjusted dates to ensure no one is left behind. Check the deadline to file Claims (Forms 6, 7, 8):
| State / UT | Draft Roll Date | Claims Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| WB, Goa, Raj, Puducherry | Dec 16, 2025 | Jan 15, 2026 |
| Tamil Nadu, Gujarat | Dec 19, 2025 | Jan 18, 2026 |
| MP, Chhattisgarh, Kerala | Dec 23, 2025 | Jan 22, 2026 |
| Uttar Pradesh | Dec 31, 2025 | Jan 30, 2026 |
Supreme Court Intervention (Dec 18, 2025)
The SC has asked the ECI to take a "sympathetic view" and potentially extend enumeration deadlines in UP and Kerala. Keep an eye out for 1-week extensions.
3 The "Claims & Objections" Phase
-
Form 6: For new voters (turning 18 by Jan 1, 2026) or if your name was deleted.
-
Form 7: To object to a name (e.g., deceased family member still on list).
-
Form 8: For corrections (spelling, photo) or shifting within the same constituency.
