Covering Senior Citizens (70+)!
In a historic move, the Government has expanded the flagship Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). Starting 2025, it provides universal health coverage to all senior citizens aged 70 years and above.
1 Universal Coverage for 70+
No Income Limit: Regardless of your economic status (rich or poor), if you are 70+, you are eligible.
Previously, Ayushman Bharat was targeted at economically weaker sections. This update removes that barrier for the elderly.
- ₹5 Lakh Cover: A distinct additional top-up cover of up to ₹5 lakh per year for the family's senior citizens.
- Separate Card: A distinct card will be issued to eligible senior citizens.
2 Gig Workers Coverage
The scheme is also extending to platform workers and gig workers (like delivery partners, cab drivers).
- This recognizes gig work as a formal employment sector needing social security.
- Registration drives are being conducted via aggregators (like Zomato, Swiggy, Uber).
3 How to Apply?
The process is entirely digital and paperless.
Steps on Ayushman App:
- Download the Ayushman App from Google Play Store.
- Login as 'Beneficiary' using your Mobile Number.
- Search for your details using State and Aadhaar Number.
- Do e-KYC (Face Auth or OTP).
- Download your Ayushman Card PDF immediately upon approval.
4 Get Your Card Printed
When you go to a hospital, having a physical PVC Ayushman Card is far more convenient than searching for a PDF on your phone during an emergency.
